The CHAPEL OF SILENCE is located on the edge of a vast forest that dominates the Botticino Valley and an area cultivated with vineyards, acting as a threshold between these two distinct landscapes.
The chapel is secular—a space for worship, silence, and prayer, open to all.
Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by a rainwater basin made of Botticino marble—a symbolic element of purification. Entering through the north-facing opening, one is guided through a compressed transitional space that leads to a small aperture—an intimate fragment offering a first, measured connection with the surrounding forest.
Finally, the main hall—the space dedicated to prayer—opens up and extends toward a large opening that frames the forest and a Botticino marble menhir, symbolizing the human presence within nature.
There is no fixed seating; instead, large leather cushions can be freely arranged according to individual needs for prayer. A curtain allows the level of intimacy with the outside to be modulated, depending on personal preference.
The form and construction of the chapel are inspired by a careful study and reinterpretation of the small, spontaneous huts scattered throughout the Botticino Valley and its surroundings. The intention is to create an architecture that evokes familiar images and speaks to the collective memory of those who inhabit this land.
